Take Action: Save Absentee Voting!

Every Granite Stater should be able to Live Free and Vote. But, once again, Republican lawmakers are trying to put up barriers between you and the ballot box.

What’s Happening?

A bill that seriously threatens absentee voting is back in the Senate.

SB 287 passed the House last week, but it’s not done yet. It now heads back to the Senate for a vote on whether to agree with the House’s changes. That means we still have a chance to stop it.

❌SB 287 destroys absentee voting by creating confusing and unnecessary barriers to absentee voting by requiring proof of identity or notarization to request an absentee ballot, and overwhelms local officials with layers of administrative red tape.

Tell the Senate: vote nonconcur on SB 287 and reject these harmful barriers to voting.

What’s at stake?

If SB 287 passes, it will:

  • Require voters requesting absentee ballots to show proof of ID or get their form notarized, barriers that disproportionately impact voters with disabilities, older adults, and those without easy access to printers, scanners, or a notary

  • Adding layers of administrative red tape for local election officials, further straining already overstretched systems.

  • Make it harder for eligible Granite Staters to vote.

Why It Matters.

In 2024, almost 100,000 Granite Staters voted absentee and under SB 287, every one of them would face barriers in future elections. Politicians pushing bills like SB 287 want to make voting more difficult for some voters because they know that when more people vote, our democracy is stronger and more representative.

Absentee voting is a safe, secure, and necessary option for thousands of Granite Staters. It ensures every voice can be heard—whether you're a caregiver, a shift worker, a student, or someone with a disability.

Bottom line: we should be expanding access to voting, not restricting it.
